Lasik The name Lasik is
short for Laser Assisted in situ Keratomileusis. Lasik
reshapes the cornea correcting myopia, hyperopia, myopia with
astigmatism and hyperopia with astigmatism. Using an automated
instrument called a microkeratome; the doctor creates a protective
flap of To treat nearsightedness, the cornea must be made flatter. This is accomplished by removing tissue from the center of the cornea. To treat
farsightedness, the central cornea must be made steeper. This
is accomplished by directing the laser beam to remove tissue from
around the periphery of the cornea. To treat astigmatism, the cornea must be made more spherical or round. By changing the pattern of the beam, tissue is removed in one direction more than the other.

Keratectomy (PRK) is a procedure that can be used to help people
with mild to moderate myopia or hyperopia with or without Pre-Surgical Evaluation (Included in Surgery Fee) A comprehensive dilated eye exam with refraction is performed 1) to confirm that your eyes are otherwise healthy, and 2) to determine your degree of near or farsightedness and astigmatism. Several specialized tests are also performed to analyze the surface of the eye (the cornea). The measurements from this exam will allow the doctor to correct your eyes appropriately. The fee for this exam, if you do not proceed with surgery, is $65.00. Please be aware that for this visit, your eyes must e free of soft contact lenses for at least 1 week prior to the exam. If you wear rigid "gas-permeable" lenses, these must be discontinued at least 3 weeks prior to this exam. LASIK Surgery Fees: $1,800. per eye / $3,600. both eyes Refractive Lensectomy $2,600 per eye / $5,200. both eyes We use the FDA approved VISX STAR S2 Laser in our practice. The fee is comprehensive and covers all aspects of the surgery and all follow-UP visits for two (2) years. You will have an opportunity to ask questions about the procedure. Payment Options Most insurance companies do not cover Refractive Surgery. If your company offers coverage for the procedure our insurance staff will assist you in filing your claim. Refractive Surgery is an excellent investment in your personal well being.
